OAK HILL WINS!!!!

The 5th and 6th Grade Oak Hill Raiders are the Champions of the CMFL!!!!

Last night in a tough game against the 5th and 6th Grade Winthrop Ramblers, the Oak Hill Raiders won by kicking a field goal in overtime, after struggling to a scoreless 4 quarters. Both teams played extremely well, offensively and defensively. Oak Hill marched down the field early and was threatening to score, but Winthrop came up with a big stop.  The bulk of the game was a back and forth struggle with each team making key plays to prevent the other from scoring.  Later, Withrop was threatening to score with just seconds left in the game.  With 4th down and goal to go, they fumbled the ball and Oak Hill recovered. Oak hill took a knee to send the game into O.T.

O.T. would be decided by each team attempting to score from the 10 yard line and having 4 downs to do it.  Winthrop won the toss and went first, but Oak Hill’s defense was up to the task.  Oak Hill got the ball on the 10 yard line, and after an encroachment penalty on Winthrop, quickly found themselves on the 5. However, tough defensive play on the part of Winthrop, backed the Raiders up to the 15 as the Ramblers were able to take us down in the back field. On 4th down, the Raiders elected to attempt a field goal. This would be a long one, with the ball placed somewhere around the 25 yard line.  Kyle Flaherty, who has had some excellent kicks all season long, came up with his biggest kick of the season with an amazing boot straight through the uprights!!! OAK HILL WINS: 3 - 0!

More important than the win itself, however, is the teamwork and sportsmanship displayed by all of the players - from both Oak Hill and Winthrop. This was a tough fought game, and both teams left it all out on the field. All players should be proud of their effort!
